Julia Montes was born Mara Hautea Schnittka to a Filipino mother, Gemma Hautea, and a German father, Martin Schnittka, in Pandacan, Manila, Philippines. Her dad left them when she was a baby, and only her deaf mother raised her with the help of her grandmother Flory Hautea.
As she celebrates her 20th birthday, she thanks her showbiz friends Kathryn Bernardo and Miles Ocampo. She posts a photo collage, including a picture of her birthday cake, on her Instagram. She is currently working with Coco Martin in Wansapanataym Presents: Yamishita's Treasures.
